Industry numbers for the fourth quarter paint a picture of economic hardship with an interesting twist. According to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), combined U.S. factory shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for December totaled 238,160, down 28 percent compared with the same month in 2007.
The offices and manufacturing facility of Energy Saving Products, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, were totally destroyed by fire Jan. 27. Investigators determined the multimillion-dollar inferno was deliberately set. CEO Leon Prevost said he hasn’t the first clue who’s responsible.
ClimateCraft Inc. and Huntair Inc. have settled the pending litigation and entered into an agreement under which ClimateCraft will license Huntair’s existing patents related to Fanwall®. ClimateCraft’s fan array products allow for fans to be turned off for safety, repair, and maintenance purposes.
Johnson Controls Inc. has been awarded the first higher education Clinton Climate Initiative project - Lee College in Baytown, Texas. Lee College is the first signed contract for a higher education institution under the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI). When complete, all 35 of Lee College’s facilities will be retrofitted.
Alfa Laval held a press conference at the 2009 AHR Expo to discuss its recent acquisition of Standard Refrigeration, which “creates the most complete product offering of liquid-to-liquid and liquid-to-refrigerant heat exchangers available to the North American air conditioning and commercial and industrial refrigeration markets.”
LonMark International announced the winners of its Best of the Year Awards at the 2009 AHR Expo. The awards ceremony took place as part of the LonMark General Meeting and attracted numerous industry professionals both from the LonMark member base and from the industry at large.
NASCAR driver Jeff Burton was on hand at Lenox’s booth at the 2009 AHR Expo to announce the top 10 finalists in Lenox’s Extra Mile Hero Contest. The tool manufacturer asked customers to submit stories of people they considered heroes - users and suppliers of industrial tools who go the extra mile for their community.
