Agreement Includes Cooperative Effort to Begin Phasing Down Use of HFC Refrigerants

During his visit to China, President Obama issued a joint announcement with President Xi Jinping of China in which each country agreed to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The United States and China will also enhance cooperation to phase down the use of high global warming potential HFC refrigerants.

WATT Fuel Cell Corp., a developer and manufacturer of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) components and systems, held a grand opening event at its new facility in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. The grand opening followed WATT’s acquisition this past April of Mt. Pleasant-based tubular SOFC developer Pittsburgh Electric Engines Inc.
Mexichem, a global specialty chemicals company that produces refrigerant gases, announced that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has ruled that imports of R-134a refrigerant from China do not harm United States industry. This ruling, however, runs counter to a U.S. Department of Commerce proposed final resolution.
