The Clifford H. "Ted" Rees Jr. Scholarship Foundation has announced scholarships for 56 students who competed at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in the HVACR category.
SkillsUSA announced that its SkillsUSA WorldTeam, consisting of 18 career and technical education students, will head to the WorldSkills Competition in São Paulo, Brazil, to compete in 16 skill categories during the 43rd biennial event Aug. 11-16.
The 50th annual SkillsUSA Championships welcomed more than 16,000 students, teachers, and industry partners, June 24-25 at the Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC) and nearby sites during the weeklong 51st National Leadership and Skills Conference.
Under the eye of scoring judges, contestants brazed, executed air conditioning troubleshooting techniques, demonstrated refrigerant recovery and recycling skills, performed refrigeration maintenance, evaluated airflow, serviced a gas furnace, and were tested on geothermal equipment.
He earned his spot on the Skills-USA WorldTeam by earning the silver medal in the event at the SkillsUSA championships in June 2011, as a senior at Loarin County Joint Vocation School (JVS). A year earlier, Kuhn competed as a junior, winning the Ohio state competition in the HVACR category.
As I’m writing this, the Diane Rehm Show on National Public Radio (NPR) has just aired a segment called “Who Benefits from College and Why.” One major component was who should go to college and who should go into a trade.
Christopher Kuhn will represent the U.S. in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning contest, July 2-7, 2013, at the 42nd WorldSkills Competition in Leipzig, Germany.
WorkBoots.com, an Internet retailer, has announced the launch of a new initiative to support SkillsUSA in its work of preparing America’s future workforce through career and technical education programs.
