The University of Maryland, through a partnership with 3D Systems and the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Building Technologies Office, has used 3D printing to prototype a new heat exchanger. The product weighs 20 percent less, is 20 percent more efficient, and can be manufactured much quicker, compared to current designs.
Dassault Systèmes, a leader in 3D design, 3D digital mock up, and product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, has announced the launch of “Lean Construction,” an industry solution developed for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry for collaborative project management and execution.
Trimble announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire SketchUp®, one of the most popular 3D modeling tools, from Google. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2012, subject to customary closing conditions.
