“Technology’s not going to solve everything, but you need to know how to use it,” Nelson Valderrama, CEO of Intuilize, told HVACR distribution professionals during the recent Heating, Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International conference.
"Going forward, the pace of existing home sales is turning and mortgage rates are shrinking. This annual growth rate chart will be turning higher very soon," said Brian Loftus, HARDI’s macroeconomic and residential market analyst.
Factors that shape the HVACR distribution market paint an uncertain picture of the year ahead. But Talbot Gee says those distributors who plan for different scenarios and are ready to “pivot on a dime” will fare best.
Distribution Trends sat down with Loran Liu, after the recent HARDI conference in Phoenix, to talk shop, including about what’s ahead for HARDI and why he moved from tech to HVAC distribution.
Loran Liu succeeds Rhonda Wight as chair of the board of directors at Heating, Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International. Liu is COO at Standard Supply & Distributing Co.
Ascend was the organization’s best-attended annual conference to date and a testament to the HVACR industry’s enthusiasm for networking and educational content, a press release from HARDI said.
The conference will offer six keynote speakers, meals, breakout sessions on a variety of topics, socializing and networking, and opportunities to meet with suppliers and representatives of businesses that support distributors.
Given the context, including a month with one less billing day than September 2022, sales seem to be treading water at an elevated level, said Brian Loftus, HARDI’s macroeconomic and residential market analyst
Based on data from HARDI members participating in the monthly survey, sales were up by 4.5% in August. Sales growth for the previous 12 months, through August 2023, was 5.7%.
