ARLINGTON, Va. — Combined U.S. factory shipments of 946,416 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for June jumped 8 percent compared to shipments from the same month last year, according to Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) statistics. Total shipments of 3,867,528 units for the first six months of 2003 are down 1 percent compared to last year.
Heat pump shipments for June of 190,770 units were up 16 percent compared to a year ago. The year-to-date total of 870,358 is up 3 percent from January-June 2002.
June distributor shipments were even with June 2002. Year-to-date distributor shipments are down 8 percent.
