One of the latest news items involves the 13 SEER issue in Canada. Here is an excerpt from the link story:

"The proposed 9th amendment to the federal energy efficiency act will implement a minimum 13 SEER level for central air conditioners (including mini-splits) and heat pumps effective January 23, 2006. This proposal is based on the date of manufacture meaning that any product under 13 SEER which is manufactured prior to January 23rd can continue to be imported into Canada after this effective date. This proposal has yet to be posted in the Canada Gazette 1. Once in the Canada Gazette 1, a 75-day comment period comes into effect."
