TYLER, Texas - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, with voluntary cooperation from Trane and American Standard, announced the recall of 2-ton through 5-ton heating and air conditioning packaged units.

The recall of 18,200 units took place because a gas leak can occur if there is a crack in the gas valve body near the inlet pipe connection. A buildup of gas in the burner compartment of the unit could occur, which could be ignited by an internal spark. Trane has received five reports of gas valve cracks, although no injuries or property damage have been reported.

Affected units are combination gas heat and air conditioning systems installed outdoors only. The units have identification plates displaying the model number. The recall includes: all units with model numbers beginning with YCP or YCX, while having serial numbers beginning with 3383 through 4475, and model numbers beginning with YCY or YCZ while having serial numbers beginning with 4282 through 4475.

Consumers with recalled units are being contacted by the independent dealers that installed them. Consumers who think they have recalled units and have not yet been contacted should call their installer.
