Canadian Tire Convicted Of Refrigerant Violation
According to Environment Canada, the corporation was found to have illegally imported bar (under the counter) refrigerators containing dichlorodifluoromethane (R-12).
Canada prohibits importation of products containing R-12. Violations of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act can result in a maximum fine of $300,000 for a first offense.
The charges were enforced by Environment Canada after an investigation by the Environmental Protection Branch of the Ontario Regional Office.
