BRAMPTON, Ontario - Canadian Tire Corp. was sentenced in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on three counts of violating the ozone-depleting substances regulations of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999. A penalty of $25,000 Canadian was imposed.

According to Environment Canada, the corporation was found to have illegally imported bar (under the counter) refrigerators containing dichlorodifluoromethane (R-12).

Canada prohibits importation of products containing R-12. Violations of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act can result in a maximum fine of $300,000 for a first offense.
