Fire Safeâ„¢ glycerin-based antifreeze can be used with all types of pipe, including CPVC. A system using this antifreeze is ensured of a flow protection of -15 degrees F and burst protection of -50 degrees, states the manufacturer. Fire Safe is ready-to-use; it should not be diluted. The company says to check freezing protection each season using a hydrometer to test specific gravity, which should be at 1.13 at 60 degrees. If specific gravity is less than this, then empty the system and replace it with new Fire Safe, the manufacturer states. According to the company, the antifreeze is nontoxic and noncorrosive. The antifreeze is available in 1-, 5-, and 55-gallon containers.
