Steve Miles (pictured here), service manager for Jerry Kelly Co., St. Charles, Mo., and a Contractor Consultant forThe News, recently introduced a system designed to locate and document cracks in heat exchangers. He formed a company named Visible Defects LLC to market and sell the system, which locates cracks using a patent-pending ultraviolet (UV) dye and UV spotlight, and allows the user to record video footage of the damaged area for customer viewing. The full system comes standard with the UV dye, UV spotlight, flexible cigarette wand video camera, portable 7-inch monitor, and two carrying cases.
