A/C Shipments Up For June
ARLINGTON, Va. — Combined U.S. factory shipments of 946,416 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for June jumped 8 percent compared to shipments from the same month last year, according to statistics from the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI). Shipments for the first six months of 2003 are down 1 percent compared to last year.
Heat pump shipments of 190,770 were up 16 percent compared to last June. June 2003 factory stocks were down 110,049 units from May 2003, and up 72,671 units from June 2002. Distributor inventories for June 2003 were up 22,819 units from May 2003, and up 123,492 units from June 2002. Distributor shipments for June 2003 were even with those of June 2002, with year-to-date shipments down 8 percent.
