Three new pipe clamp thermocouples have been designed to take pipe temperatures easily and accurately. All three K-type thermocouples work with instruments that include a K-type thermometer. The ATC1 thermocouple accessory has a spring-loaded clamp to hold the thermocouple junction firmly up against a pipe, typically for suction line temperature measurements. It can be connected to 1-1/4-inch OD pipes. For larger pipes, the ATC2 features a 2-1/4-inch jaw opening. According to the manufacturer, the ATC3 has a more sophisticated design for connecting to a pipe and the thermocouple is even better isolated. It can be connected to a pipe with a diameter up to 1-3/8 inches. All three pipe clamp thermocouples can facilitate taking a superheat or subcooling measurement on most residential and commercial refrigeration appliances or air conditioners.
