ARLINGTON, Va. — Combined U.S. factory shipments of 382,545 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for January were up 5 percent compared to shipments for the same month last year, according to Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI) statistics. January 2003 Heat pump shipments of 112,609 were up by 12 percent compared to January 2002.
Factory stocks for January 2003 were up 20,181 units from December 2002 and up 83,158 units from January 2002. ARI also reported that distributor inventories for January 2003 were up 30,368 units from December 2002 and down 175,318 units from January 2002.
Distributor shipments for January 2003 were up 8 percent from January 2002.
