• The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) (Chantilly, VA) was presented with an Award of Excellence in the 2001 Associations Advance America Awards program for its Safety Excellence Plus, a software program for the sheet metal industry.

  • The Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) (Lansdale, PA) will release the second CD-ROM in its series based on electronic automotive repair information systems. The new MACS A/C-ROM will be available in late January 2002.

  • The Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI) (Arlington, VA) presented awards to industry leaders at its 48th Annual Meeting. The 2001 Richard C. Schulze Distinguished Service Award was presented to William E. Dalton, Horace “Ed” French, Joseph R. Humphrey, Phil Nohr, and Gary L. Tapella. The ARI Lifetime Achievement Award went to John W. Norris, Jr., while Donald P. Grob was presented with the Meritorious Service Award. A Special Recognition Award went to Keith Coursin, Lev Goldberg, and Thomas Mikulina for their role in the Milwaukee, WI, high school pilot program. Mark S. Menzer, ARI vice president of Engineering and Research, was awarded the Wilbur T. Pentzer Award.

  • The Certified Welding Bureau (CWB) (Chicago, IL) elected its new board of directors. George Kearney of Northwestern Industrial Piping (Niles, IL) and John Reynolds of Independent Mechanical Industries (Chicago, IL) renewed their terms on the board, while John Robertson of J.H. Robertson Co. (LaGrange, IL) fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Chuck Morf of Borg Mechanical Contractors (Hillsdale, IL).
