DioxiClear™ is a chlorine dioxide-based biofilm remover. The company states that foulants and bacterial coatings as thin as 50 microns (2 mils) can affect transfer efficiency by 27%, increase energy coasts by 7%, and can lead to down time and equipment replacement. The manufacturer says chlorine dioxide is a broad-spectrum sanitizer that has been used for over five decades in municipal water purification to kill bacteria, algae, fungi, and to control odors; on heat exchange surfaces, chlorine dioxide kills all bacteria in 1 min and attacks and disperses the stubborn polysaccharide film. According to the company, DioxiClear is not toxic, corrosive, or chlorinating, and takes a 5-min flush with the product to remove the biofilm completely.
