FALLS CHURCH, VA — Heating and cooling contractors and plumbing contractors at a recent Union-Affiliated Contractors’ (UAC) Unity Meeting were urged to remain actively engaged in code adoption issues around the country. The UAC is an enhanced service group of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors — National Association (PHCC).

During an “Influencing Codes and Licensing in Your State and Local Area” panel discussion, UAC members were encouraged to remain involved to make sure their interests are represented. Panelists reminded UAC members that in some cases, contractors have relaxed after having their preferred code adopted, only to have that code circumvented by subsequent adoption of a building or energy code.

Sid Cavanaugh of the United Association (UA) facilitated the panel discussion. Other panelists were Raymond B. Bizal, P.A., regional manager of the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Building Code, and Linden Raimer, southeast regional director of codes for the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials.

Other Unity Meeting seminars dealt with getting started in residential construction, contemporary labor negotiations, and an update regarding the UAC’s educational initiatives.
