ATLANTA, GA — At its annual press breakfast held for the trade media during the Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Expo (AHR Expo), Danfoss introduced several new products, including a new series of wireless thermostats.
Building on its TP 75 models introduced last year, the new models use wireless communication from the thermostat location to a receiver module that can be up to 30 yards away. According to Danfoss representative Mike Taala, the new wireless thermostats can solve the problems of inconvenience and high labor costs where cabling to the thermostat would require damaging the finish or structure of a building.
According to Taala, each thermostat has a unique identity code as part of the information packet decoded by the receiver.
“Unlike many other systems on the market that use matched thermostats and receiver pairs, the Danfoss system has technology that allows a receiver to learn the unique identity code of its thermostats during installation. After commissioning, the receiver responds only to its own unique thermostat,” said Taala. “If it is ever necessary to replace the thermostat or receiver, the new component can be taught to communicate to the existing unit.”
Receiving units are available in one-, two-, or three-zone versions, and can be used with any two versions of the company’s wireless thermostats.
Danfoss also unveiled its new 6000 series of electronic, programmable, 5/2-day heat/cool thermostats. According to Taala, there are models for heating or cooling applications such as two-pipe non-changeover systems, and also heat/cool models for use in two-pipe changeover systems and in four-pipe non-changeover systems.
All models have a fan output; selected models provide manual three-speed fan selections.
Compressor, Valves, And MoreThe company also introduced its 20- and 25-ton commercial Performer® scroll compressors. With today’s new models, the Performer range of capacities is from 7 to 25 tons, with tandem, trio, and quadro assemblies extending up to 100 tons. Accord-ing to Danfoss representative Jeff Weber, the multiple compressor circuit capability of the Performer helps standardize construction, simplify manufacturing, reduce lead times, and lower costs.
“The Performer line is used in a wide variety of applications, including liquid chillers, split air conditioning systems, rooftop units, and close control air conditioning,” said Weber.
Danfoss also added larger and smaller capacities to its offering of hermetic fractional horsepower compressors for R-404A. According to the manufacturer, its new 115-V, 60-Hz compressors range in size from 1/5-hp to 1/2-hp and higher, with capacities from 710 to 2,374 Btuh for low temperatures and from 1,530 to 4,200 Btuh for medium temperatures.
“These Danfoss compressors all have high starting torque, and so can be used in systems with or without thermostatic expansion valves,” said spokesperson Ricardo Cruz. “They are designed for quiet operation and have dual mounting patterns.”
In regard to valves, Danfoss highlighted its type MSV circuit balancing valves for hydronic heating applications. According to the company, both its “T” and “Y” patterns are offered from 1/2-in. to 6-in. sizes.
It also extended its offering of type TRE thermostatic expansion valves with new larger capacity models. Added are the TRE 40, with capacities of 20, 25, 30, and 40 tons (R-22); and the TRE 80, in the 40-, 55-, and 70-ton range (R-22). According to company spokesperson Kevin Freidt, with these new valves, available for common fluorinated refrigerants, its TRE line “now covers a range of capacities from 8 to 70 tons.”
“Included in the new offering are models designed specifically for R-410A applications up to 100 tons,” said Freidt.
Freidt also introduced the company’s new global solenoid valve coils, available for all common voltages. Intended for the oem market, the company said the new coils “will simplify ordering and inventory for manufacturers who deliver commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units worldwide.”
Finally, Danfoss displayed its saddle sight glasses from 1 1/8 to 1 5/8 in. The company said its SGRI is designed for optimal moisture indication for all CFCs, while its SGRN is specifically for all HCFCs and HFCs.
