Update Expands Capacity of Installed Quilt Systems

SOFTWARE UPDATE: Quilt Systems Inc. recently expanded the capacity of each of its installed heat pump systems via an over-the-air software update.
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Heat pump manufacturer Quilt Systems Inc. has made a capacity expansion to every installed system, delivered through an over-the-air software update.
Based on direct feedback from Quilt certified partners, the update increased outdoor unit maximum capacity to 24,000 Btuh in cooling (up from 19,700 btuh) and 25,200 Btuh in heating (up from 20,500 Btuh), with indoor units now delivering up to 12,000 Btuh cooling and 12,600 Btuh heating when two units run simultaneously.
Quilt’s software-first design enables continuous improvement through automatic updates — no new SKUs, no warehouse complications, and no mid-season retraining required, a press release from the company said.
“For too long, homeowners and contractors have expected appliances to decline in value the moment they’re installed,” said Mark Schmidt, Quilt’s chief revenue officer. “Quilt flips that model on its head. With this update, every Quilt in the field just became stronger, more capable, and more reliable — and next month, it’s only going to be better. We’re building long-term trust by delivering continuous improvements that benefit both customers and partners.”
The capacity increase unlocks Quilt heat pumps for installations in larger bedrooms and living spaces previously beyond the system’s range, expanding sales opportunities for partners while maintaining Quilt’s industry-leading SEER2 rating of 25 and HSPF2 of 12, the press release said.
This update exemplifies the power of smart heat pump technology, in which the Quilt system continuously expands capabilities through over-the-air updates rather than locking in factory software for its lifespan. Future software improvements will continue expanding system capabilities, optimizing efficiency algorithms, and adding new features based on customer and partner feedback, Quilt’s press release said.
