When Jake Holst left the Air Force, he was not sure what direction he would take for a career. That is when a fellow veteran told him about the distributor Behler-Young and how great it was working there.
Jake has been with the company for nearly five years now. He started in their Comstock Park, Michigan branch working a hybrid of counter sales and warehouse position. He soon jumped up to full-time counter sales.
In 2018, Jake moved to St. Joseph to help the company open a new branch in that territory. Jake and the new manager worked very hard and successfully built a new customer base and serviced those customers. In early 2021, the territory manager retired, and Jake stepped in as an account manager to handle sales for the territory while also helping at the counter until a new team member could be hired.
After one year on the job, he has been promoted to territory manager in that market. He has been the company’s No. 1 territory manager (according to growth percentage) in the company for three straight months.
“I’d love to continue in a sales and operations position in the future, but leading my own sales team,” Holst said. “One of the greatest moments I had at this job is having customers tell me that I am not just a salesman, but an integral part of their business.”
