The 2022 IIAR Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo will take place March 6-9, 2022 at the Savannah Convention Center in Savannah, Georgia. The conference is the largest exposition dedicated to the ammonia and natural refrigeration industry, providing an unrivaled opportunity for the industry’s leading manufacturers, contractors, trainers, and other service providers to showcase their latest innovations and products.

With exposure to a variety of points of view, attendees will become aware of new ideas and trends that impact the future of the natural refrigeration industry. Getting to know professional peers can also open doors to new clients and new ideas. Educational sessions include:

Transcritical CO2 Compressors: Technical Challenges in Industrial Refrigeration Applications

CO2 refrigeration has allowed several industrial sectors to reduce their usage of high-GWP refrigerants and pursue sensible energy cost reductions. However, specific components and appropriate system design are mandatory when approaching CO2 technology due to the unique thermodynamic characteristics of this refrigerant. This session will describe the challenges of developing compressors for industrial CO2 transcritical operation with displacement up to 4,412.00 cfh and 180 hp.

Oil Management Design Considerations for Industrial Transcritical CO2 Systems

The industrial refrigeration market is now finding applications where transcritical CO2 systems are a sought-after design. But unlike in ammonia systems, oil in CO2 systems is miscible, which creates challenges in its management. This presentation will explore a comparison to commercial systems as a baseline for tried-and-true oil management. Also discussed will be some of the unique challenges and potential solutions in how to solve these challenges, including sizing component selection.

Fundamentals and Future of Refrigeration Controls

This four-hour course will examine how controls are more and more becoming part of strategic operations and why refrigeration professionals need to understand the architecture and capabilities of currently available control systems. Topics include the fundamentals of automated controls; the needs of end users when it comes to controls; opportunities in cloud-based controls and the accompanying security issues; and value-added benefits provided by automated controls.

Educational sessions that take place onsite will be recorded and made available for on-demand viewing beginning March 10th, 2022 for those who would like to access the materials virtually. Anyone who attends the conference in-person will also have access to online content.
