HVACR Industry Alliance Outlines Policy Priorities

Letter to VP-elect Pence focuses on jobs, economy

On Jan. 6, the HVACR Industry Alliance sent a letter to Vice President-Elect, Mike Pence, outlining the industry's priorities and offering support to the administration in accomplishing the goals in the letter.

Representing more than two million jobs, Alliance members seek the incoming administration's support for economic, tax, environmental, and energy policies that increase global American competitiveness while simultaneously increasing economic growth and encouraging a balanced regulatory approach.

Eleven HVACR organizations make up the Alliance: ACCA, the Indoor Environment & Energy Efficiency Association; Air-Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute (AHRI); Air Movement & Control Association (AMCA); American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE); Heating, Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI); Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI); National Air Filtration Association (NAFA); North American Technician Excellence (NATE); Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Contractors – National Association (PHCC); Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES); and Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA).

In the letter, the Alliance congratulated the new administration on their win and detailed the importance of the HVACR industry's role in the success of the country.

The letter states: "The U.S. economy depends on HVACR systems that provide human comfort and also refrigeration systems that make modern medicine possible, keeps food fresh, and ensures our information technology systems are operational. Our Alliance stands united in offering our support and assistance in your efforts to enact policies that will further our shared goals of economic growth and opportunity. We believe our nation is positioned to tackle the commonsense policy recommendations we outlined and we look forward to working with you to transform goals into achievements."

The top priorities that were laid out in the letter were: utilizing industry consensus standards, tax reform and incentives, energy bill and epca reform, refrigerants and ratifying Kigali amendment, energy-efficient quality hvacr installations, and the workforce.

Stalknecht, HVACR Alliance chairman and president and CEO of ACCA. "We believe that with a Republican in the White House and Republicans controlling both houses of Congress, that we will have better chances of our priorities being worked on and our industry being a more productive part of the country meeting its economic and energy goals moving forward."
