ARLINGTON, Va. — ACCA announced it has launched a new online certificate program, HVAC Design for Code Officials. This new program is part of ACCA’s Code Essentials training.

Through Code Essentials, ACCA said code officials will gain a better understanding of how to accurately design residential mechanical systems using ACCA’s Manuals J, D, and S. It will also give them a basic understanding of how to conduct an effective and efficient system plan overview for the purpose of issuing a permit.

“Code officials and inspectors are under the gun to uphold code requirements, but have limited resources to help them do this when it comes to industry accepted standards,” said Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA president and CEO. “ACCA understands that the lack of resources can create strained relationships between contractors and code officials. So, to help code officials understand these standards and to easily ascertain whether contractors have followed code-specified design criteria, ACCA developed the Code Essentials online training and certificate program.”

The program consists of three videos and downloadable slides that can be used to follow along. Upon completion of the video program, code officials can take a 30 question online exam. Once the exam is passed, a certificate of completion is issued. This certificate can be provided to the International Code Council (ICC) to receive 0.2 continuing education units (CEUs).

HVAC Design for Code Officials costs $60 and can be accessed online at www.acca.org/certification/code-essentials.
