ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International Inc. is seeking volunteers to form a new document-creation committee to author a new AMCA standard that will introduce the fan efficiency ratio (FER). This initiative was approved by the AMCA board of directors at its winter meeting.

The FER metric is a ratio of the actual fan efficiency to a baseline fan efficiency, both calculated at a given airflow and pressure point. AMCA said this new standard will introduce FER as an energy efficiency metric for fans designed to encourage their responsible use and help drive significant and quantifiable energy savings through codes, rebate programs, and federal regulations.

Committee members would be expected to participate in the drafting, review, and resolution of any and all comments on the standard. Most (possibly all) meetings will be by conference call via GoToMeeting. Once the technical committee is formed, work could be completed anywhere from six months to 18 months.

Those interested in joining the technical committee should click on the following link to complete the form: http://tinyurl.com/FER-Standard-Committee.

The deadline to complete the form and join the committee is March 25, 2015.
