Danfoss Wins 2015 AHR Expo Product of the Year

Turbocor VTT Series Compressor Receives Top Honors at Industry Event

February 23, 2015
Danfoss Wins Product of the Year
From left to right: Tom Phoenix, president, ASHRAE; Lin Sun, vice president, engineering and product development, Danfoss Turbocor Compressors; Mogens Rasmussen, director of product development, Danfoss Turbocor Compressors; and Ed Purvis, chairman, Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), present and accept the Product of the Year Award.

CHICAGO — Danfoss’s Turbocor VTT Series Compressor was selected as the 2015 AHR Expo Product of the Year during the Innovation Award ceremonies Jan. 27 at the 2015 AHR Expo in Chicago. The Danfoss VTT (Variable Twin Turbo) Series Compressor was chosen from among the top Innovation Award winners in 10 industry-related categories.

Intended for water-cooled chillers with capacities of 350 ton per compressor, Turbocor VTT compressors are oil-free, variable-speed, magnetic bearing centrifugal compressors ideal for commercial air conditioning or process cooling chillers reaching up to 1,000 ton or more. The Turbocor VTT Series introduces IntraFlow, an innovative and patent pending technology that improves efficiency and provides an extended, stable operating range while simplifying capacity control. IntraFlow eliminates the need for inlet guide vanes or mechanical variable geometry diffusers, allowing VTT compressors to offer both superior full- and part-load performance and enabling chiller manufacturers to achieve the latest efficiency standards.

The compressors also feature an exclusive drive technology that is the result of integrated research and development efforts blending Danfoss’s extensive expertise and capabilities in high-efficiency compressors and variable frequency drives for the HVACR industry. The VTT drive offers reliability and performance in a small frame size made achievable only with refrigerant-controlled heat removal.

Because the compressors are oil-free, end users experience lower maintenance costs and fewer chronic lubrication repair problems, stated the company.

This marks the third and fourth times Danfoss’s Turbocor Compressors have been recognized in the AHR Expo Innovation Awards; it is the first time a Turbocor product has been named product of the year. In total, Danfoss has been recognized 19 times over the past 12 years in the Innovation Awards program.

“We are honored by this prestigious industry recognition,” said Ricardo Schneider, president and CEO, Danfoss Turbocor Compressors. “Danfoss remains committed to innovative engineering that helps to shape the HVACR industry, redefines expectations for energy efficiency, and strives to meet future challenges and standards.”

The AHR Expo Innovation Awards recognize the most creative, effective, and ingenious HVACR products and technologies on the market. The annual competition is jointly sponsored by ASHRAE; the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI); and the International Exposition Company (IEC), producers and organizers of the AHR Expo. Winners are chosen in each of 10 product categories based on innovation, value, and impact on the market.
