Course Title: Building Operator Certification Level I

Description: The Building Operator Certification (BOC) Level I course series is intended for building engineers and maintenance technicians in the HVAC and electrical trades, and others in the facilities engineering and maintenance profession. The class is comprised of classroom training, offsite project assignments, and in-class exams administered at the close of each training day. Classes consist of lecture, discussion, small group exercises, and facility tours. Facility projects require participants to demonstrate competence in locating building equipment, distribution pathways, and control points; calculating facility energy consumption; critiquing HVAC systems operation; and, sketching the facility’s electrical distribution system. The five project assignments include the following topics: energy-efficient operation of building HVAC systems, measuring and benchmarking energy performance, efficient lighting fundamentals, HVAC controls fundamentals, indoor environmental quality, and common opportunities for low-cost operational improvement.
