Thybar Corp.: Vibration Isolation Rooftop Unit Curb
Providing mounting for rooftop HVAC units, the Vibro-Curb has integral, vibration-dampening spring isolators that are easily accessed. Roofing may be completed at a later date without disturbing the unit, which eliminates extra crane or helicopter expenses. A 2-by-4-inch wood nailer is provided for attaching roofing felts. The flexible 9-inch counter flashing provides a weather seal while permitting easy access to the isolators. Roofing around spring access ports is not required with the Vibro-Curb. Minimum 90 percent isolation efficiency is achieved with the isolators. According to the manufacturer, the curbs are custom-sized and spaced to accommodate the rooftop unit’s weight and center of gravity for optimum vibration dampening. Deflections of 1, 2, or 3 inches may be provided. Vertical limit stops eliminate excessive movement caused by wind loads and seismic activity. The standard 1-inch deflection Vibro-Curb height is 24 inches, with optional heights available. Units can be fabricated to match a specific roof pitch or configuration. The curbs may be factory assembled or units can be shipped in a limited number of subassemblies to the job site. An airtight plenum package is available, which can be factory installed or knocked down for field assembly.
