BEIJING - Carrier Corp. announced that, in support of its commitment to sustainable building in China, the company participated in China’s Sixth International Green Building Conference. For six consecutive years, Carrier has joined its parent company, United Technologies Corp., as a top sponsor of the international conference organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Peoples Republic of China.
Carrier exhibited its sustainable building solutions, including green building consultancy and design, energy efficient air conditioning equipment, cutting-edge building automation systems, and energy efficient retrofits for existing buildings.
“Buildings consume 40 percent of the world’s energy,” commented Ross Shuster, president, Carrier Asia, when attending the International Green Building Conference media briefing. “It is our mission at Carrier to address energy and environmental issues through creating more efficient and sustainable building solutions.”
Carrier’s Environmental Market Solutions Inc. (EMSI) has been a consultant in over 50 percent of all the China Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) certified projects, said the company. In 2009, Carrier signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bank of Beijing, establishing a strategic alliance to promote energy efficiency improvements and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in China’s buildings. Also in 2009, Carrier formed a joint venture with Sinostride Technology Co. Ltd., a leading extra low voltage contractor in East China, to further expand its sustainable building solutions and services portfolio.
“Carrier has been the expert in sustainability for over two decades, and now we want to make that green expertise more apparent to our Chinese customers and the local market,” added Shuster. Carrier noted that it is the only company in the world to be a founding member of the United States, India, and China Green Building Councils.
“Going forward, we will continue to invest heavily in energy efficiency and sustainability,” said Shuster. “We believe this is an effort benefiting both customers and society as a whole.”
