PHOENIX - Construction Contractors’ Alliance (CCA) members learned proven ways to stay ahead in tough times during a March 4-6 CCA meeting in Phoenix. In the midst of contractor roundtables, a full-day leadership workshop, and a construction-oriented seminar on the economy, CCA members focused on adapting to today’s business environment and preparing for the future.

At the opening roundtable sessions, members shared ideas on how to cope with a down economy, such as adopt lean business practices, manage material costs, diversify services, and restructure companies.

An interactive “Developing the Leader Within You” seminar the next day provided tips on how to be an effective head of a company in difficult times. To wrap up the meeting, economist Jeffery Collins presented background on what led to the current economic downturn; what the key construction markets are; an analysis of the stimulus and bail-out plans and how they will affect the construction industry; and a look forward to what the growth drivers will be for the next decade.

Also during the meeting, Matt Erickson, C.J. Erickson Plumbing Co., Alsip, Ill., was elected CCA chairman and Stephen Jones, Raven Mechanical, Houston, was elected to the CCA board of trustees.
