ARLINGTON, VA — The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) plans to celebrate its 50 years of service with a time capsule. The institute is inviting instructors and students to participate in a contest to create the time capsule. The winning entry will be a tabletop display at ARI headquarters.

ARI will collect items to place in the capsule during 2003. These items could include industry videos, CDs, standards, and a picture of the capsule’s creators. A Nov. 12 copy of The News with a special ARI anniversary supplement will also be placed in the capsule.

The winning submittal will be awarded a $1,000 check for construction and shipping of the completed capsule to ARI by Nov. 1, 2002. The time capsule will be displayed at ARI’s annual meeting in November and sealed one year later.

The capsule can be made from any materials used in the industry, including sheet metal, stainless steel, copper, etc. The dimensions must not exceed 24 by 24 by 24 inches; weight must not exceed 75 pounds. The capsule must have at least one opening.

Design proposals must be received by close of business on Sept. 9, 2002. Submittals can be sent to Leslie Sandler at ARI, 4100 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 200, Arlington, VA, 22203.
