July 30, 2003: Symposium To Discuss How To Deal With Mold
According to Aerias, Joseph Lstiburek, with Building Science Corporation, will explain why buildings fail and how to design and construct buildings to prevent mold and other IAQ problems. David Odom, with CH2M Hill, will explore why the design and construction community often does not meet requirements to prevent moisture and mold problems.
Elliott Horner, Ph.D., with Air Quality Sciences, will explain that because no standard procedure is used in all cases to interpret mold samples, different investigators may draw different conclusions from the same data. He also will outline what investigators should do (and what these investigators' clients should be aware of) to get consistent, reliable results.
Richard Hodyl Jr., with Williams, Montgomery & John, will provide an update on mold litigation, and Nicole Allen, with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, will review mold-related legislative and regulatory initiatives. Pamela Davis, with the California Research Bureau, will look at California's AB 284 Mold Bill. Also, there will be presentations on the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification's new mold remediation standard and how the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers' ventilation standard addresses mold.
