In the wake of the blackouts that affected the Northeast and Midwest, the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) is calling for a National Energy Plan. AEE recently published a statement urging passage of a viable plan, and it is available free of charge at the association’s Web site,www.aeecenter.org.

The plan suggests that the current domestic energy situation and the increasing demand on foreign oil has made the United States more vulnerable from an economic and security perspective. According to AEE, the objective of the National Energy Plan “is to reduce dependence on foreign oil, minimize future oil price shocks, and foster a reliable generation and transmission system.”
