Driven, in part, by the increased incidence of major natural disasters, the fuel cell industry is seeing a resurgence, notes Navigant Research. Rising demand and new policy initiatives from countries including China, South Korea and South Africa made 2012 a pivotal year for the fuel cell market.

Rheem announced that it has acquired Heat Transfer Products Group (HTPG), Scottsboro, Ala., from Monomoy Capital Partners. Rheem is a manufacturer of heating, cooling, water heating, and pool/spa heating products. HTPG is a manufacturer of commercial refrigeration equipment for the foodservice, food retail, and other markets.

Noesis Energy announced that it now has $18 million of energy efficiency projects in development, attained just two months after the launch of Noesis Pro Project Services. The company said this demonstrates the need in the commercial and industrial sector for a systematic way to measure, verify, and finance efficiency projects.

Danfoss has announced that supermarket chain Winn-Dixie is the winner of its fourth annual EnVisioneer of the Year award. Winn-Dixie is using Danfoss AK-SC 255 system controllers integrated with Danfoss Electronically Delivered Services (EDS) to significantly improve store energy use.

ASHRAE has accepted an invitation from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to join an effort aimed at improving building performance through a better prepared workforce. The goal is to advance the skill sets of engineers and other professionals involved in building design, operation, and commissioning.
