The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced that its Construction Backlog Indicator (CBI) reached an all-time high in the second quarter of 2014. The CBI improved 5.4 percent following a 2.8 percent decline in the first quarter. It currently stands at 8.5, up 3.6 percent on a year-over-year basis.

Distribution International Inc. (DI) announced it has completed the acquisition of certain assets of the State/Allstate Companies. United States shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 8.8 percent in June 2014, to 283,942 units, up from 260,860 units shipped in June 2013, according to the latest statistical report from the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).

The Massachusetts House of Representatives has passed a comprehensive renewable thermal energy bill that will promote the use of clean renewable fuels and technologies for heating and cooling. Passed earlier by the Massachusetts Senate, the bill is expected to be signed by Gov. Deval Patrick and go into effect on Jan. 1, 2015.
