A newly revised ASHRAE/IES standard has been published that is designed to provide better guidance and a more comprehensive approach to retrofitting existing buildings for improved energy efficiency.

SustainCo Inc. announced that its SustainCo Solutions & Services unit, through operating group VCI Controls Inc., has been awarded and has substantially completed a series of contracts and work orders worth over $550,000 by Defence Construction Canada-CFB Borden and Public Works and Government Services of Canada-CFB Borden.

Uponor North America announced it is expanding its manufacturing facility in Apple Valley, Minnesota, beginning late spring 2015, with completion expected by Dec. 1, 2015. The $18 million investment will be used toward renovation and creation of an additional 88,000 square feet.

ASHRAE has announced that a proposed energy standard specifically aimed at energy use in data centers and telecommunications buildings is open for public comment. ASHRAE Standard 90.4P, Energy Standard for Data Centers and Telecommunications Buildings, is open for its first public review until March 30, 2015.

Mentor Graphics Corp. has announced a call-for-entries for its first annual Don Miller Award for Excellence in System Level Thermo-Fluid Design. Don Miller is the former research director for British Hydromechanics Research (now BRH Group) in the United Kingdom, and author of Internal Flow Systems.

Ilios Dynamics Inc., a subsidiary of Tecogen® Inc., has announced its new Ilios™ HEWH-500-AS Split System air-source natural gas-driven heat pump water heater. According to the company, the unit cuts water heating costs in half, reduces a facility’s carbon footprint, and does so with near-zero criteria pollutant emissions.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it is increasing the options for refrigerants used in various types of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in the United States to offer alternatives with low global warming potential (GWP). 

The InsideIQ Building Automation Alliance, an organization of independent building automation contractors, is seeking an executive director. The alliance said this step is the next phase of its growth. The executive director will provide leadership and ensure the continued advancement of the alliance.
