New West Technologies announced that it has been chosen by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to develop a working prototype of an advanced energy storage and power system for refrigerated truck trailers that replaces their traditional diesel-powered systems.
A new report has found that the environmental challenge caused by booming global demand for refrigeration could be far greater than previously thought. Due to changing demographics, particularly in Asia, the number of refrigerated vehicles on the road could feasibly reach 15.5 million by 2025, up from less than 3 million in 2013.

Dearman said the system, which features the company’s liquid nitrogen-powered engine, has already produced promising results.
