NEW YORK - The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognized John Barth, chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls Inc., as the Corporate Honoree of Diversity at its 2006 Live the Good Life Gala. Barth was chosen for both his personal and corporate commitment to helping diverse businesses succeed and his efforts toward creating a healthy work environment. He has a long history of successful business leadership and outstanding corporate citizenship. Under his management, Johnson Controls became one of only 12 U.S. companies to spend more than $1 billion annually with diverse suppliers.

In addition, Barth has served as chairman of the National Minority Supplier Development Council and was recently honored by the council for his and the company’s long-term achievements in the area of minority business development.

“Barth’s success in both helping minority businesses grow and creating a healthy workplace is an excellent example of how corporate America can not only improve the bottom line, but also have a positive impact on the community and on its employees,” said Lynn Nicholas, chief executive officer of the ADA. “We are thrilled to present him with the corporate diversity award for our Live the Good Life Gala.”
