According to John M. Barth, chairman and chief executive officer, "Throughout our 120-year history, Johnson Controls has continued to transform itself for continued success, and 2005 is no exception. The impending acquisition of York International doubles our market opportunity, and by combining our controls expertise with HVAC equipment, we will be advantaged in the marketplace and have strengthened capabilities to penetrate the huge building services market.
"In the automotive battery market, where we are the undisputed leader, we extended our leadership from the Americas and Europe to Asia, and are prepared to be a strong player in the hybrid vehicle market.
"In automotive interiors, we established a blueprint for continued profitable growth by accelerating cost reductions, leveraging our global footprint, and investing in innovative products."
