ARLINGTON, VA — The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) announced that combined U.S. factory shipments of 779,422 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for May 2001 were down 1% compared to shipments from the same month last year. Heat pump shipments of 164,060 were up 22%, compared to May 2000.
May 2001 factory stocks were up 863 units from May 2000; distributor inventories were down 135,897 from May 2000; and distributor shipments were down 3% from May 2000.
