UTICA, N.Y. - Approximately 50 ECR International employees and their families volunteered their time on July 10 for the 28th running of the Boilermaker Road Race. In addition to the volunteers, 10 ECR employees ran the race. The Boilermaker was started in 1976 as a way to thank the community for its support of Utica Boilers (now ECR International). At that time, there were just over 800 runners and today the Boilermaker is credited as the largest 15K road race in the nation with well over 10,000 runners participating from all over the world. This year's winner was Gilbert Okari of Kenya with a time of 43:22, while the top female finisher with a time of 50:11 was Sally Barsosio of Kenya. In the picture at right, Tom Reed (right), chairman of the board of ECR International holds the finish line with Nick Matt, of Saranac Beer, as Sally Barsosio of Kenya becomes the first woman finisher of the 2005 Boilermaker Road Race.
