Earlier this year, Hussmann (a business unit of Ingersoll-Rand) sponsored a one-week training program for HVACR technical college instructors at the IR Climate Control Technical Learning Center in Minneapolis. Twenty-four instructors attended the program on system fundamentals.

The purpose was to help instructors incorporate supermarket refrigeration training into their current programs, said Jerry Meyer, manager, Hussmann Learning Solutions. "Only a few technical college HVACR programs include supermarket refrigeration in their curriculum," he said.

"This course makes it easier for colleges to add ‘supermarket' to their existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning programs."

He added, "We are also committed to help schools get the equipment they need to deliver effective supermarket refrigeration training."

The program in Minneapolis included an understanding of parallel rack system components and operation, oil control, heat recovery systems, digital controls, AC electrical components, and common maintenance procedures.

Attendees were given student manuals, instructor guides, and PowerPoint presentations that could be used immediately in their own classrooms.
