ARLINGTON, VA — Combined U.S. factory shipments of 847,716 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for May 2002 continued to rise, reflecting a 9% increase compared to shipments from the same month last year, according to statistics from the Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI). Heat pump shipments of 173,496 were up 6% compared to May 2001.
ARI also noted that May 2002 factory stocks were down 69,169 units from April 2002, and down 111,967 units from May 2001. Distributor inventories for May 2002 were up 547 units from the previous month and down 203,715 units from the same month last year. May 2002 distributor shipments were up by 7% when compared to the same month last year, with year-to-date shipments up 6%.
