Net income was $136 million, up 2% over the $133 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2000.

The Manitowoc Company (Manitowoc, WI) has reported financial results for the second quarter that ended June 20, 2001. Net sales increased 22.4% to $298.2 million for the second quarter of 2001, up from $243.6 million for the same period in 2000. Earnings for the quarter were $17.9 million, or $0.73 per diluted share, excluding a one-time charge, compared with $22.6 million, or $0.91 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2000.
A.O. Smith (Milwaukee, WI) is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its plant in Bray, Ireland. The plant has gone from assembling imported motor “kits” for one customer to being a major contributor to the company’s hermetic motor operations and the company’s “window on the world.” The plant marked its milestone on June 27.
Ingersoll-Rand Company (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) has reported net earnings from continuing operations of $91 million, or $0.55 per diluted share, for the second quarter ended June 30, 2001, excluding charges related to restructuring and productivity investments. The 2000 second-quarter net earnings from continuing operations were $177.7 million, or $1.09 per diluted share. Reported net earning for the second quarter of 2001 were $62.9 million, or $0.38 per diluted share.
Modine Manufacturing Company
(Racine, WI) has announced net earnings of $10.2 million, or $0.31 per diluted share, for its fiscal first quarter, which ended June 26, 2001. Net earnings for the period were down 46.8% compared with the prior year.
ABB (New Berlin, WI) donated eight of its motor drives to the electronics lab at Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee, WI. The drives will be used as part of teaching the general electronics curriculum that comprises the college’s two-year program.
