WASHINGTON, DC — Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham announced a 20-year plan designed to make homes more energy efficient, as well as more comfortable and healthy for occupants. The plan was released jointly with the help of the building envelope industry, which produces walls, floors, and ceilings for the Department of Energy (DOE).

The “Building Envelope Technology Roadmap” will guide cooperation among researchers, industry, and federal and state government in making future homes more energy efficient and safer for the environment. The guide also addresses industry trends, such as increased competition, consumer demands for lower costs, maintenance, reduced environmental impact, technological development, and market barriers to new innovations.
