HVAC Trends: Tariffs, Incentives, Standards and Regulations — Oh My!
How a shifting HVAC landscape has redefined approach
Over the past few years, import tariffs and global supply shifts have had ripple effects across HVAC equipment availability and pricing. And those factors continue to influence product sourcing and competitive dynamics in today’s U.S. market. According to Dennis Stinson, senior vice president of sales at Fujitsu General HVAC solutions of America, it’s still a challenge — there’s longer lead times and tariffs have affected equipment prices. What this has led to is more strategic planning between manufacturers, inventory specialists, and customers to make sure demands are being met, with one of the biggest lessons the HVACR industry has learned through all of these changes — not just limited to tariffs and global supply shifts, but also including A2L transitions, regulations, and standards — being the need for increased communication. According to Stinson, high-efficiency products are desirable, as is comfort, and saving energy and money, even as across the board the cost of an HVAC system continues to increase. To sustain sales, especially as incentives and rebates continue to shift, specifically around energy and utilities, good, educated contractors are needed.
