2025 Top 40 Under 40: Marco Rubino

A fresh-out-of-college Marco Rubino knew one thing: He didn’t want to cut grass for the rest of his life. So he started checking Indeed until one day, he saw (and answered) an ad for a job with Kalex Energy Company. Kalex’s owner, Michael Pfluke, gave Rubino a chance, mentored him, and got him hooked on the industry.
“Being exposed to the fast-paced, and intricate environment that is HVAC, my young mind was hooked,” Rubino said. “I loved the challenge of finding solutions for customers and being able to solve challenging issues.”
By the time Rubino was 30, he’d already reached $50 million in residential sales. By the time he was 40, he’d doubled it. Another accomplishment? The fact that he worked his way up from sweeping floors for an HVAC contractor to eventually running a division of a distributor of VP Supply’s caliber.
Looking to the future, Rubino wants to serve as an instrumental part to the expansion of VP Supply. He wants to expand on his knowledge of new technologies and impact others by sharing the knowledge he’s acquired over his 17 years in the industry — with the end goal of becoming a vice president or CEO in the HVAC distribution. He also hopes to continue his involvement in the HVAC community as a whole by contributing to different organizations as a board member. Overall, supporting the younger generation’s embrace of HVAC as a career.
“HVAC has supported my family through good times and bad times,” Rubino said. “No matter the market conditions, economy, etc. — people must have heating and cooling. HVAC has opened the doors of opportunity and advancement, no matter what life throws my way. I’m very thankful and grateful I made this my career choice.”
