Patent Issued for Technology at Heart of A/C System

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Mojave Energy Systems was recently granted a patent for the design of the liquid desiccant regenerator that makes ArctiDry an energy-efficient commercial a/c system.

The Ultra Low Flow Desiccant Air Conditioning Systems Devices and Methods patent issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office applies to Mojave’s novel approach to regenerating liquid desiccant. The company’s flagship product, ArctiDry, is a liquid desiccant air conditioner and dehumidifier that can operate in heat-pump mode and includes supplemental heating options.

The liquid desiccant regenerator design and application is key to Mojave’s unique ability to provide exceptional system efficiency and reliability by simplifying the overall system architecture, a press release from Mojave said.

“We are committed to creating innovation that makes sense and delivers important benefits for today’s businesses. This patent gives Mojave a clear advantage in the most critical aspect of producing a successful liquid desiccant air conditioner,” said Phil Farese, CEO of Mojave. “By regenerating the liquid desiccant with an air-to-liquid ratio at multiples lower than what has been done in the past, we achieve far greater efficiency with a simplified system that makes it more reliable and cost-effective for our customers.”

ArctiDry is ideal for dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) and dehumidification applications in health care, education, food retailing, hospitality, and manufacturing, the press release said. ArctiDry has an ISMRE2 efficiency rating of up to 11 lbs/kWh, more than double the Department of Energy (DOE) standards, the press release said. Additionally, ArctiDry’s independent dew point and temperature control allows users to unlock building-wide energy savings by raising chiller temperatures or running dry coils.

Mojave has more than 40 individual patents or patent applications in the U.S. and abroad, including six U.S. patents.

Mojave’s ArctiDry requires significantly less electricity and produces lower carbon dioxide emissions than other comparable systems, the press release said. ArctiDry can drop into existing HVAC infrastructure, requires minimal maintenance, and helps customers achieve net-zero goals.
