There are two types of calls where a contractor could find themselves knee deep in one of the most divisive topics in the HVACR industry — red-tagging a gas furnace. The first is during a routine maintenance/service call for those already existing customers. The second is if a contractor were to provide a second option after another contractor has already red-tagged and shut down the furnace. And depending how contractors handled a red-tagged second option, they could make a lot of mistakes when navigating this situation. Unless a contractor already has a system in place, it could make for a rather uncomfortable position. So, there are a few questions for contractors to consider to help them navigate a red-tagged second opinion the right way. There are also a few ideas that may help, too. For starters, doubt the first opinion. Then, ensure that the right test instruments are being used to troubleshoot the furnace. After a few more steps, contractors will be able to more effectively navigate red tag second opinions.
