MARIETTA, GA. — CobbWorks Inc., a not-for-profit that offers workforce development programs in Cobb County, Georgia, and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Georgia (PHCCGA) were recently given the Cinda Herndon-King Award by CareerRise for their PowerUp! Program.
The Cinda Herndon-King Award honors organizations that have demonstrated innovation in creating collaborative, employer-driven career training programs in the metro Atlanta area.
PowerUp! is a pre-apprenticeship program that promotes economic mobility in the skilled trades for underserved populations. Its third cohort, which CobbWorks launched in a partnership with PHCCGA, involved more than a dozen employers and offered participants 16 weeks of work experience and mentorship.
There were 10 other groups nominated this year for the Cinda Herndon-King Award. CareerRise is a nonprofit that connects employers, training providers, support services, job seekers and workforce funders in order to build employment-related partnerships and implement equitable workforce strategies in metro Atlanta.
