SAN ANTONIO — At Casa de Misericordia (House of Mercy) near Piedra Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, children who have been abandoned or removed from their home due to severe neglect or unsafe conditions are provided with a secure place, food, and a caring, stable environment. For the 30-40 children who call Casa de Misericordia home at any given time, that environment can now offer even greater relief, thanks to a donation from Friedrich Air Conditioning.

The company recently donated and volunteered the installation of two Friedrich ductless-split air conditioning systems at the Casa de Misericordia, providing major respite and comfort for the children and caregivers at the orphanage. Given Piedras Negras’ arid climate, average temperatures range from 90°-100°F from May through September, which can cause the temperature inside Casa de Misericordia to spike up to 120°.

Casa de Misericordia is assisted by Aleluya Ministries of Hope in San Antonio, a nonprofit organization that helps churches and orphanages in Piedras Negras. With no government support, and extremely limited resources to operate, being able to afford the latest air conditioning technology was something the orphanage could only dream of. The building has no ductwork, and the organization can barely afford to pay its electricity bills, so Friedrich ductless systems provided an important solution. Friedrich ductless system benefits include reduced energy use, the ability to provide powerful performance without the need for ductwork, maximum airflow, and sound reduction.

Friedrich employees also volunteered to travel to Piedras Negras on their own time to do all the necessary installation of the donated equipment themselves.

“We are so grateful for the generous hearts at Friedrich for providing air conditioning,” said Wendy Meaden, treasurer of Aleluya Ministries of Hope. “It is a blessing for the poor and orphaned children and adults. One can imagine how hot it is in the summer, and we are so thankful to the Friedrich team who recently installed the units.”

In addition to the donation at Casa de Misericordia, Friedrich has made significant donations of air conditioning units and systems to Aleluya Ministries of Hope during the past two years. In 2015, the company provided three ductless-split systems and two room air conditioning units to the Templo Aleluya Church and Rey de Reyes, which provides services and care for children in need. Friedrich also donated five ductless-split systems to Casa Bethesda Orphanage, a refuge for orphaned or abandoned kids and adults with disabilities and special needs.

“This is truly a labor of love,” said Wink Chapman, vice president of sales and marketing for Friedrich. “Friedrich takes great pride in extending a helping hand to our neighbors in Mexico, especially children who struggle every day to survive in an area plagued by peril.”
